Celebrating Writer's Day

Here we are enjoying our first stop of the day. We loved I Love You to the Moon and Back by Mary Jane Schnitker. Our favorite part was finding the moon on each page.

Next stop was the gym for author Kate Klise. Her stories were funny, we especially liked the one about her crazy hair cut! She gave us some great tips on writing our own stories.

Then it was on to author Margo Dill. We are looking forward to reading some of her newly published books this summer.

Next, we were in the library for a presentation on blogging by Mrs. Mitchell. We liked commenting on our day on edmundo.com.

Finally, we were back in the gym for Good Night St. Louis. What an awesome book and a great way to end our day.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, here is a pic of our amazing Haiku poems that we "published"!

HAPPY WRITING EVERYONE!

Fairy Tale Unit!

We have started our writing unit on fairy tales and are having great time talking about fairy tales and adapted fairy tales. Check out which ones are our favorites! We are also comparing and contrasting the classic tales to the many adaptations.

Our class is doing a wonderful job writing their own adaptations. Be sure to ask your student to recall his/her story to you!

The awesome NASA "Hangout"

We had an awesome opportunity to "hangout" with NASA today. We were part of the Mission X Closing  Ceremony. Mission X is a 6-week international fitness challenge designed for NASA Astronauts who need to improve their fitness before a mission in space. We spoke with 4 NASA representatives and 3 other schools. We have been "Training Like Astronauts" in PE as well in class with science and math activities. It was very interesting to learn from actual astronauts! We listened to some questions and answers from the other schools, as well as ask a few questions ourselves. We watched a video of what a real space stations look like.  We were able to see kids "Dream Stations" and share ours!
